Stellar Cartography

The stellar cartography department updates the Federations Star Maps as the ship travels through space. Usually this will be done through the use of the ships onboard sensor arrays.

This data will be available from other Federation starships as well. In this way the Stellar cartography department could co-ordinate with other ships to scan areas of space faster than one ship could on its own (especially with long range scanners).

Power Requirements

The Stellar Cartography System draws 2MW of power. 

Dev Notes

So the Ships System for Stellar Cartography is basically an array of computers. If the health of these computers falls below 75% then the Stellar Cartography system is offline and other ships cannot be contacted to share their scan data.
