Ships Water Recycling

Water is required by most species. Although in theory it could be generated from raw materials using a replicator this seems like a terrible waste of energy. Therefore most ships are equipped with water storage tanks.

The water usage can be set for the entire crew by assigning a water ration amount.

Each tank has its own water reclamation system which can reclaim water from waste disposal.

Water is very heavy, therefore this will have to be taken into account for the mass of the ship while calculating acceleration/deceleration.  

Power Requirements

The reclamation units each use 0.01 MW of power for each liter being processed (typically 0.02MW when processing 120 litres per hour).

Dev Notes

Typically each crew member requires a minimum of 2 litres of water each day to stay healthy. If they have less than 2 litres per day, there health will decrease at the rate of:

So, if the crew were only drinking 1.5 litres per day, then they would lose 5% health each day. This means that a crew cannot survive more than 5 days without water.

If water is breached to outer space, then it is lost. This is because it turns to steam due to the lack of air pressure, then instantly freezes forming a cloud of ice crystals. The only way to get this back would be through the Bussard Collectors. To aid this recovery, water in any of the Bussard Collector holding tanks can be used by the water reclamation system – however it must be pure water with no other contaminants.

Each reclamation unit can reclaim 120 litres of water per hour when they are operating at full health. They operate until their health falls below 50% at which point they stop working.
